Mam or Mother

What a beautiful start to the day, even remembered to alter my clocks, getting to Castleton before the crowds and the promised weather. Meeting the group they all seemed a jolly bunch a mixture of four Spice groups surrounding the Peak District, a gentle start then the climb to Lose hill, what a difference height makes but the views are endless and I have to shout to explain the various landmarks, stories of giants and legends, takes your breath away literally, along the ridge to the descent of Back Tor and into the wood for a break, back into the wind to Hollin’s Cross and the steady climb to Mam Tor or Mother Hill or Shivering Mountain take your pick but this hill fort top again has outstanding views down both valleys, a descent to Windy Knoll for lunch, lived up to it’s name, before crossing the head of Winnats Pass to eventually join the Limestone Way and the steep descent of Cave Dale, love this descent following the stream to emerge beneath the castle back into Castleton even if it did rain.
